RFID Loses Out To VOIP In Lastest Survey

Siemens Financial has released a report that affirms businesses are more likely to invest in security and voice over IP than radio-frequency identification technologies. Siemens Financial acts as a consultant to the IT industry. In its survey's, the company discovered that 36% of the firms interviewed had invested in security and VoIP equipment. On the other hand, 16% of respondents had purchased RFID products. In the cut-throat IT market where cheap technology sells, VOIP has proven to have a greater cost/results ratio than RFID. While it is unlikely RFID will disappear from the IT mainstage, the success of VOIP is turning heads in the industry. According to Information Week:

In an interview, Zadrozny said that Siemens finance customers don't seem to be interested in RFID. "We've had no one that we're aware of that's using this," he said. "You just hear about Wal-Mart kind of pushing this off on their suppliers. We haven't seen any widespread acceptance of this at all. I don't think there is a compelling reason for people to use this. They got so many other things to invest in."
