British Organizations Speak Out on RFID Standardization

The UK standards committee, JEDEC, is collaborating with the Consumer Electronics Association. The two groups hope to leverage their influence to benefit industries using RFID. Recently, UK news reported on a company that was tagging its workers during the work day. These types of events signal the urgency with which appropriate use of the technology must be considered. Regulation has quickly become a central issue to all countries utilizing the technology. In order to successfully provide modern business with its many benefits, standardization must take place. The JEDEC and CEA have begun by determining what they qualify as RFID. According to The Inquirer:

JEDEC describes RFID as a generic term for technologies that use radio - or wireless as the Brits call it - to track pets, equipment and goods within "supply chains".
