Companies around the world are investing in developing RFID technology. E.&J. Gallo Winery invested money for RFID and data analytics research at the University of Arkansas. The company feels that this will help it to develop a strong business case for implementing RFID. According to Kent Kushar, a vice president in the company, the important thing is to enable the passive tags to transmit accurately to the readers. This is particularly important in the case of E. & J. Gallo as their product is liquid and this affects the read rate.
According to Edward Geisler, business analyst at Eastman Kodak Co., the company would like to have a standard procedure for quick deployment of tags at multiple locations. Kodak is already practicing case and pallet level tagging for shipments to its warehouses and retail distribution centers. The company is hoping of achieving its ROI targets quickly by implementing the lessons learnt from its pilot studies.
Sunbeam Products Inc., ships RFID-tagged pallets from its facility in Missouri to Wal-Mart’s distribution center in Dallas. The number of RFID-tagged products that Sunbeam ships has grown from twenty in the beginning of the year to over hundred.
