Next generation tags and readers are here!

The next generation in RFID technology is going to witness a new range of tags and readers that will not only be more advanced but will also cost less. RFID standard group EPCglobal Inc. is said to have certified as many as nine readers and one tag under its hardware certification program in the recent months. Almost every RFID company has drawn up a business plan to come up with improved products in the coming months.

Alien Technology uses Fluid Self Assembly manufacturing process and High Speed Strap Attach Machine assembly technology that has made it possible to design small packaged semi conductors in high volumes and at low costs. AT&T is also holding trials in collaboration with its customers in order to lay down infrastructure and deploy readers and edge servers in accordance with the demands of the industry.

Cisco Systems plans to spearhead RFID growth with its new 'Intelligent Foundation' for RF ID that will have varied and standardized products. Hewlett-Packard is joining hands with Royal Phillip Electronics to test run its Gen2 RFID tags in Brazil. As RFID gains popularity across a wide range of industry, new customer demands and business requirements are encouraging the development of new techniques using processes that promise to deliver more and cost less.informationweek.com reports:

The first vendors to have products certified for Gen2 are Alien Technology, Applied Wireless Identification Group, Impinj, Intermec Technologies, Symbol Technologies, ThingMagic, and MaxID Group. EPCglobal has contracted with third-party testing lab MET Laboratories Inc. to certify the products.
