RFID in Order Management Systems
RFID can be used to enhance the efficacy of applications such as Vendor Manage Inventory (VMI) and Collaborative Planning, Forecasting, and Replenishment (CPFR) tools. The quick identification and constant tracking of a product is particularly useful in the order management of high-velocity items.
In order to manage high volume purchase and distribution, companies are looking toward RFID as a cost- and time-saving solution. Since, the items are monitored at every stage in the supply chain; errors in reading information are identified quickly. The automatic generation of the Advanced Shipping Notice (ASN) allows retailers and suppliers to compare information against the ASN. Upon receipt of goods at the retailer’s end, the acknowledgement is generated automatically for the items being read. tcs.com reports:
For processes such as VMI and CPFR, a retailer’s point of sale (POI) data and real time item information across all interfaces of the supply chain has to be readily available to coordinate the partnerships among the various components of the supply chain.
