ETRI, Korea develops world’s first 900 MHz metal tag

Korea’s Telecommunication Research Institute has developed the world’s first 900 MHz broadband metal tag. It can be attached to various metal objects including electronic appliances, metal structures, computers and automobiles. These tags can overcome the shortcomings of existing tags such as low recognition rate and narrow frequency band. It can cover the entire range of RFID frequencies utilized in the U.S., North America and Korea. Making use of synthetic resins or Styrofoam instead of costly dielectric substrate in manufacturing tags will reduce costs considerably. This tag will be 90 % cheaper as compared to the existing tags.
