Companies in the US lose an estimated US$1 billion in form of stolen tools annually. The two-cent bar code labels they normally use tend to wear away. Now, A US$5 tag can possibly prevent all that from happening again.
Take for example, Apple Restoration, a Brooklyn-based restoring firm. The company uses expensive tools and equipment, some of which, such as chipping guns and sky-climber motors, cost as much as US$5,000. To make matters worse, these tools can be at 'n' number of places at one time and it makes tracking and keeping safe a hard job.
Now, Apple Restoration has allied with toolmaker Bosch and software vendor ToolWatch, and now uses RFID tags on half of its tools to better track them. Now it can even know, who is using, abusing, or stealing them. It helps that Bosch now offers more than RFID tagged 60 tools.
Though maintaining and updating a Toolwatch Database is a time-consuming job, it sure saves money.
