PSC, which made history on June 26, 1974 when its scanner rang up a pack of Wrigley's gum for the very first time, will mark the 30th anniversary of the barcode by unveiling the wireless handheld Falcon Hybrid Reader, the world's first combination RFID / barcode scanner.
Business Wire reports:
"With companies such as Wal-Mart demanding RFID use by 2005, will the 'beeeep' be silenced?
"'Not likely,' says PSC's vice president of Engineering, Matt Schler. Just like scanners 30 years ago, RFID needs standardization and lower costs for wider acceptance."
