RFID Vendors Fail to Meet Business Intelligence Needs

Keith Gile of Forrester Research says that many business intelligence (BI) vendors are failing to meet RFID analysis capability sought by enterprises. For now, the responsibility of data analysis rests with the enterprises themselves, rather than the BI vendors, who are slow to develop analytics tools. ERP software provider SAP may be in the best position to offer such tools, but even they remain focused not on BI, but rather on operational processes. According to CRM Daily:

Business Objects, Cognos, and SAS all are waiting on the sidelines to see what happens with RFID in the supply-chain arena.
Any possible RFID business intelligence applications from these vendors will appear in about two years, predicts Gile. The vendors will wait for middleware makers to integrate the data streams coming from RFID applications into other operational and supply-chain data stores.
