RFID suppliers

The suppliers of RFID tags are present not only in the larger nations but also in countries such as Finland and Malaysia. Companies such as Assa Abloy and Verichip are strengthening their presence in RFID sub-markets through acquisitions. Affluent countries such as Germany, France, etc do not have a well-developed RFID implementation program commensurate with their size and economy.

RFID suppliers such as ASK, Gemplus, Tagsys, etc, that belong to these countries have their major clients outside their respective home countries. The Netherlands and China have shown increased activity in terms of RFID development and deployment. China is implementing pallet- and case-level to meet the demands of its retail clients. Given the fact that the Chinese manufacturing and supply chain is becoming increasingly efficient, it will not be long before China implements item-level tagging on a commercial scale.

RFID is not the preserve of the rich and industrialized nations only. Botswana has implemented RFID and all cattle in Botswana are tagged. Australia is planning a similar tagging program for its livestock industry. idtechex.com reports:

Now the so-called Gen 2 standard is available for UHF tags, the preference is to apply it to the newly available Type 2 read write versions, partly because computer networks are too fragile to cope with a simple license plate ID in the major food supply chains as yet.
