RFID tags store data in two ways, unique signatures and digital data. The unique identity system employs a unique magnetic pattern for each unit. The identity of the product is then made available to all the stores and matched with the already existing data on the tag. The alternative to this is to let the tag store the relevant information, which can then be read as per an agreed set of rules. This eliminates the need for a system to distribute updated information.
