HP joins BEA to integrate RFID

Computer heavyweight HP has collaborated with BEA Systems, which sell middleware software. HP plans to sell its storage systems to businesses that have huge RFID usage and data demands.

The duo's joint offerings will use BEA's WebLogic RFID middleware. Incidentally, BEA's RFID software is based on technology BEA acquired when it bought ConnecTerra last year. This RFID software works by 'filtering data from RFID devices and sending the information to back-end servers'.

To start things, HP and BEA will sell their combined products and services to organizations in four important verticals; namely, defense, pharmaceuticals, retailing, and "re-usable asset tracking" (such as shipping containers).
